Josh’s Flavored Vodka

For Josh’s birthday this year, I got him glass flasks for making infused drinks.  He’s really enjoyed them and so far has made Jolly Rancher and Skittle infused vodka.

Take it from me… it is yummy!  For everyone who’s already asked for the recipe, and for those of you who haven’t, but will want it…Here’s how you make it:

First separate out the Skittle candy flavors.  You’ll need 60 of each color.  2

Add the 60 Skittles to 6 ounces of vodka in an empty water bottle to allow for the candy shells to break down.  Let them sit for 24 hours and shake them periodically.

As the candies dissolve, there will be the white candy residue floating at the top of the liquid.  This is okay, you just need to filter that off.

Next, sift the Skittle mix to separate the flavored liquid from the candy coating remnants.  Use 4 coffee filters in a funnel to do so.  You should end up with about 6 ounces of liquid.

Pour the Skittle Vodka concentrate into an 8.5 oz. container and fill the bottle up to the neck with vodka.  (I found these containers at Sur La Table on sale for $3.96).

Aren’t they pretty??

Store the containers in the freezer and enjoy!

Now for the Jolly Ranchers…  This recipe is even easier!

Just sort out the Jolly Rancher flavors and unwrap 12 and put them in the glass container.

Next, fill the flasks with vodka.

Let them sit overnight while the candy dissolves.  There’s no straining with the Jolly Ranchers like there was with the Skittles.  Shake the flasks periodically, then freeze and enjoy!

We’ve tried Coke Zero, Sprite, and my favorite, Club Soda as mixers.  The vodka is pretty sweet, so I think the club soda is best, but everyone seems to really like the Sprite too.

For you health nuts out there - the Jolly Ranchers only add about 15 cals per ounce and the Skittles only add about 7 cals per oz. of vodka, so you don’t need to feel too guilty about it!

Let me know what you think if you try this recipe out.  It’s fun to make and to drink!  Cheers!

  1. Can't wait to try them this weekend! I favor the Sprite myself.

BTW, love the mobile version of your blog! It loads so quickly!

  2. That looks so yummy! I'm going to have to try it!

  3. Heck yes! I am soooo making this for my Fourth of July party! Sounds so yummy and refreshing mixed with Sprite!

  4. My husband makes these drinks as well. The best Jolly Rancher one so far is the one he calls Blue Lightening (w/ blue raspberry). It goes really well over Sprite or Club Soda. Good to see someone enjoys these types of drinks!

    My Story
    Welcome to my life…

Over the past three years it has been flipped upside down. I am 31 years old, and married to my hubby of three years, Josh. We have 4 beautiful angel babies, who are fondly known as our “Green Beans”. The first of my quads, Heidi, held on as long as she could and was born on January 31, 2009 after pPROMing at 17 weeks. A few weeks later, I pPROM’d with my sweet Lily. Lily, Paige, and Rylan were all born at 22 weeks on February 23, 2009. Just after being released from the hospital empty handed, I returned with a high fever and infection. Two of the nights I spent in the hospital that week, I honestly thought I was going to die. It was the sickest and most hopeless I’ve ever been. I’m pretty sure my diagnosis was a broken heart.

Our journey to becoming parents has had its share of happiness and heartbreaks. I got through every day by staying close to Josh, friends and family, blogging, and relying on God that my future will be bright. All the love and support I’ve gotten has greatly helped me manage……I am alive and well, and want to be my absolute best as a result of this.

On May 1st 2011, we welcomed our sweet baby girl, Taylor, into this world. She is our miracle baby and brings so much joy and happiness in our lives. She is such a gift from God.

I have come out of all of this with a better appreciation of life. I hope to make the best of this situation by helping others who will experience a similar loss.
