Get off the Couch!

To counterbalance all the eating we’ve been doing on our family vacation, my SIL Traci, and I went for a little jog Wednesday morning.  She turned me on to this most amazing app called Couch to 5k.

The Couch to 5k (aka: c25k) app will ease you into running a 5k in 9 weeks!  It is designed to be 3, 30 minute workouts a week, so it is easy to fit into your busy schedules.  It’s a really easy app to use too.  It integrates with the music you already have on your iPhone, iTouch, or Droid, so you can listen to it as you workout.  It tells you when to start walking, running, and when to turnaround at your half way point too.  All you have to do is get off the couch and get moving!

For our workout, Traci backed her training up to Week 1, Day 1 partly due to a recent calf muscle injury and because of the altitude here in Colorado.  It took us all a couple of days to just adjust to the 7,000 ft. altitude.  I was getting winded just walking up a flight of stairs!  

c25k2 Each workout is timed, and it will alert you when you are at your halfway point.  It gives you a warm up period and a cool down time too.    You can record your workout history and update your results to Facebook (if you want it too).

  4. I downloaded that app a while ago and love it. I have not been as dedicated to it as I would have liked, but it's a great motivator when I do use it! It makes starting to run a little more manageable!

  6. Of course I love the app. Worth the small $ to have a running buddy spurring you on. Once I am back on flat land I will bump back to week 4. It was great running with you.

    My Story
    Welcome to my life…

    Over the past three years it has been flipped upside down. I am 31 years old, and married to my hubby of three years, Josh. We have 4 beautiful angel babies, who are fondly known as our “Green Beans”. The first of my quads, Heidi, held on as long as she could and was born on January 31, 2009 after pPROMing at 17 weeks. A few weeks later, I pPROM’d with my sweet Lily. Lily, Paige, and Rylan were all born at 22 weeks on February 23, 2009. Just after being released from the hospital empty handed, I returned with a high fever and infection. Two of the nights I spent in the hospital that week, I honestly thought I was going to die. It was the sickest and most hopeless I’ve ever been. I’m pretty sure my diagnosis was a broken heart.

    Our journey to becoming parents has had its share of happiness and heartbreaks. I got through every day by staying close to Josh, friends and family, blogging, and relying on God that my future will be bright. All the love and support I’ve gotten has greatly helped me manage……I am alive and well, and want to be my absolute best as a result of this.

    On May 1st 2011, we welcomed our sweet baby girl, Taylor, into this world. She is our miracle baby and brings so much joy and happiness in our lives. She is such a gift from God.

    I have come out of all of this with a better appreciation of life. I hope to make the best of this situation by helping others who will experience a similar loss.
