weekend highlights and lowlights

I know what you are probably thinking, and no, I didn't get my hair done this weekend. That would have been very appropriate because of the title of this post though!

We had a very busy weekend (again)! On Friday night, my friend had a big Girls Night Out party at her house. It was a great time hanging out and meeting new people. Josh even got to come to the Girls Night, but as one of the two bartenders! He did a great job keeping everyone's glass full though out the night! At one point that night, my clumsy-self knocked my phone off the counter. My poor phone dropped one too many times, and CRACK!

It's finally had it from all the use and abuse I do to it. Even though it still works, it's probably not going to for long. Guess I'm going to have to 'crack down' and buy a new one (no pun intended!). Needless to say, breaking my phone was one of the lowlights of the weekend.

A big highlight on the other hand was getting to babysit @Lilperno Saturday night!! Cameron was such a good boy. We played for a couple of hours, then he feel fast asleep right at his bed time!

On Sunday, Josh and I went to the Bucs game! My Dad won some tickets at his church and gave them to us, so that was a lot of fun! I don't really follow any sports, but I do like attending the games. We had great seats, but we were in the shade just about the whole game so we froze our butts off! The Bucs didn't win in the end, but we had a great time! Highlight!

just playing around

Look what I made with Picasa! Aren't they cute? I wanted to make it look similar to one of those Andy Warhol pictures.

happy anniversary!

Today is our 2nd wedding anniversary! I am so proud to be married to Josh and to have him by my side in life. Two years ago today, we were married on St. Pete Beach, with 10 of our closest family and friends. It was a nice low-key wedding. We kept it really simple. We all stood barefoot on the warm beach, while our good friend, Mike, married us!
"You may kiss the bride..."
My parents and us in front of the Don Cesar.
Immediately following the ceremony, 8 of us headed straight to the Port of Tampa to board a 5 day cruise! It was a great way to celebrate our wedding and to have an awesome vacation with friends!
Our ride to the Port of Tampa!

Here's the whole gang the last night of our cruise (plus our 2 favorite waiters!)
Good times!! I wish we could all do this again soon!

This year, we celebrated by going to dinner at Bern's! I've been craving a delicious steak from Berns for months, so it was great to finally go. We had a car pick us up and chauffeur us to dinner. That was a first for us! It made the night feel a little more special. During dinner, half the restaurant lost power for about an hour, so we made the best of it and dinned by candlelight! They were still able to serve us food and drinks during that time, so we were happy! It was a wonderful night. Great food and great company!

I love you, Babe! Happy Anniversary!

just one year ago...

Just one year ago from now, we were on cloud nine, celebrating our first year of marriage at Sandals in Antigua! It was the best vacation ever! We spent that week laying out by the pool and at the beach. It was a much needed break from the busy lives we were living. Every thing slowed down for that week, and we didn't have a thing to worry about!

Enjoying dinner out. (ahh, I was so tan!)

The view from our room! Beautiful.
On the last day of our wonderful trip, I was feeling a little "weird". I don't know how else to explain it, but I just felt like taking a pregnancy test, so I did! And guess what? That was our first, very early sign, that we were pregnant with the quads. I was in total disbelief, and had to take another test the next morning, and then again when we returned home. Finding out that news while on our vacation made it even more special! What a great end to our trip.

Getting bumped to first class wasn't to bad either! This was the best meal ever served on a plane. My favorite, cereal!

Ahh, just ONE year ago... how easy life seemed. I don't even feel like the same person anymore. What a year it has been....

breast cancer awareness month

Since it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to mention the brave, strong, women in my life that have recently battled this unfair disease.

My Aunt Sharon first battled cancer 3 years ago. She had to have a mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, and has been in remission ever since. My Mom just recently found out that she needed to have a lumpectomy because a small section of cancerous cells were detected during her annual mammogram. She had her surgery a couple of months ago, followed by 10 localized radiation treatments over a 5 day period. She was very lucky to have the type of cancer that can be treated by the localized radiation treatment versus regular radiation or chemo.

To celebrate the completion of her radiation treatment, my sister and I got her a bunch of flowers and I delivered them to her. Flowers are her favorite!

My Sister-in-law, Traci, also recently discovered she had a suspicious lump in her breast. The biopsy showed that it was LCIS (a pre-cancerous tumor), so she is scheduled to have a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in two weeks. Our thoughts and prayers are with her while she is enduring this unfair reality.

I'm so thankful that my Mom, Aunt, and Traci didn't have experience chemo therapy, and all caught it in the very early stages. Breast Cancer is such a scary thing, and it seems that it is becoming so common these days. I hope that one day (SOON) we have a cure for this terrible disease.

Love you Mom, Sharon, and Traci!

headboard project

Ever since we moved into our new house, I've intended on making a headboard for my guest bedroom. I've had the plywood for it for months, but that was as far as I got. One day when my neighbor Holly came by, she noticed my plywood in the garage and I told her what I planned to do with it. She's been wanting to make a headboard too, so we decided we'd tackle the project together!

Getting all the materials was probably the most difficult part. Holly got the 3" foam and batting, and I found my fabric at Ikea. Since I picked striped fabric, I had to buy extra to sew pieces together so that the stripes would be vertical. I decided on a 4' tall headboard to make it the focal point in the room.

Here's the Guest Room before, as I am measuring the fabric out.

Once we had all the materials together, Holly and Jamie came over and we sprawled everything out in the empty Bonus Room.

First we glued the foam to the plywood, then covered it all with a layer of batting. Next, we covered it with the fabric and stapled it all to the back.

And, Voila! The finished headboard!

I had some leftover fabric, so I made an accent pillow out of it. I think it really ties in the bedding with the headboard. Here is what the guest room looks like now!

While I was at Ikea picking out the fabric, I found this sheer, cream fabric that works perfectly as drapes for the room. It was on clearance, so I couldn't pass it up. I'd never sewn anything like this before, but it was really simple. Just a couple of hems, and you're done!

The project seemed really ambitious at first, but once we got going it was really simple. Everyone's headboard turned out GREAT! A big thanks to Holly and Jamie for finally pinning me down to get it done!

fun finds!

I found some awesome bargains today, that I had to share with you!

I stopped by the donation center at the new Salvation Army store by our house to drop off some old clothes and shoes. Then, I decided to go in to see if the new store had anything good. First of all, I hate digging through racks of stuff, just to find things that you don't really want or need, but this store was so clean and well organized! Right when I walked in to the store I instantly spotted a brand new entertainment center from Rooms To Go! It had a small scratch on the side, but you'd never really notice. I'm considering going back tonight once Josh gets home to pick it up.

I ended up finding this brown linen dress with the tags still on it! It was only $2.50! Once I got home, I paired it with a little white tank and this beaded necklace I already had. A cute little outfit, huh?

I also found this new necklace...
And this cool bangle!

I'd say that it was a very successful shopping trip at the thrift store! Tomorrow is the community garage sale; wonder what I'll find there!

Don't you love finding great things for super-cheap?

    My Story
    Welcome to my life…

Over the past three years it has been flipped upside down. I am 31 years old, and married to my hubby of three years, Josh. We have 4 beautiful angel babies, who are fondly known as our “Green Beans”. The first of my quads, Heidi, held on as long as she could and was born on January 31, 2009 after pPROMing at 17 weeks. A few weeks later, I pPROM’d with my sweet Lily. Lily, Paige, and Rylan were all born at 22 weeks on February 23, 2009. Just after being released from the hospital empty handed, I returned with a high fever and infection. Two of the nights I spent in the hospital that week, I honestly thought I was going to die. It was the sickest and most hopeless I’ve ever been. I’m pretty sure my diagnosis was a broken heart.

Our journey to becoming parents has had its share of happiness and heartbreaks. I got through every day by staying close to Josh, friends and family, blogging, and relying on God that my future will be bright. All the love and support I’ve gotten has greatly helped me manage……I am alive and well, and want to be my absolute best as a result of this.

On May 1st 2011, we welcomed our sweet baby girl, Taylor, into this world. She is our miracle baby and brings so much joy and happiness in our lives. She is such a gift from God.

I have come out of all of this with a better appreciation of life. I hope to make the best of this situation by helping others who will experience a similar loss.
